About Gina…

      Hello, everyone!

Girl with BookMy name’s Gina (Gin or Geebee for short)… and I’m a bookaholic. I’m 33 (March 2010), married since July 1st, 2000, and have two kids, Vanessa (9) and Mathieu (7&1/2) (the kids are 16 months apart.) I work from 9am to 3pm with my family for our automotive shop; repairs, high-performance and engine rebuilding (the latter is our specialty). I’m the ‘Office Manager/Gopher/Finder’ – the one who takes care of Accounts Payable and Receivable, the one who goes to get whatever’s needed, and the one who seems to find whatever’s missing – as long as it’s someone else’s missing work or tools. If it’s my own, LOL!, I couldn’t find it with a magnifying glass! I grew up around the Quarter-Mile Drag strip and I’m a sucker for a hot Muscle Car. My parents own a 1973 Dodge Challenger Rally, 440 (engine), Top Banana Yellow in colour and white vinyl interior. While the Challenger will always be my favourite car (got to use it for my wedding!), the 1964 Ford Mustang comes in close second, especially if it’s a red convertible with a red leather interior. The ’57 Chevy Bel Air two door hardtop comes in close third. *sigh*

Enough about cars or I’ll be here another 6 hours, LOL! Now…

For as long as I can remember, you wouldn’t see me around without a book, either. As a kid, Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys drew my attention, as well as Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women and L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables series. In my early teens, I was hooked on R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike, Sweet Valley High and the Babysitter’s Club. Later, I’d read my mom’s Danielle Steel collection (she has them all), V.C. Andrews (she has them all) and Stephen King (she has them all as well, LOL!)

When I first moved out of my parents and in with my then-boyfriend-now-hubby, I was busy enough between home and work that I only read my mom’s novels: Danielle Steel, Stephen King, VC Andrews, Sidney Sheldon.

As for my bookaholism… It all started, or should I say grew, when my husband started working full-time nights, five nights a week. Having only one vehicle and two babies less than 16 months apart, I got stuck at home just about every night, including weekends. Books were a way of keeping myself from feeling lonely and bored. A friend (while on vacation with hubby and kids), said to me, ‘if you like Danielle Steel, you’ll love Nora Roberts’. 2 months later, I found out something. She was right! I now own and have read every single Nora Roberts novel, including her pseudonym J.D. Robb (my fave series of all-time!) When the kids were asleep, the dishes done, laundry getting done, books gave me an… well, outlet, for lack of a better word. A place to escape from the everyday reality, even if only for a little while.

It’s been 7 and a half years, almost 8 years, since I bought my first book (after reading every single book my mother owned.) I now have 1 – 5-shelf bookcase full to stuffed (books in rows, books on top of books, books in between rows of books), and a second almost full, and a third just waiting to be started. I try an author, and if I like, I buy them all. I adore paranormal/supernatural – tops for me!, romantic suspense, thrillers, horrors, mysteries, comedies… I seldom read straight romance, but I don’t dislike them. I won’t read biographies (to me, that’s homework and I’m no longer in school, LOL!), real-life/crime novels (I get enough of that watching the news or Court TV), or self-help. So basically, I won’t read Non-Fiction. Click on My Fave Authors page for a list of who I read (please be advised – orders are subject to change as I find new authors all of the time and I can guaranty some are not posted).

I read approximately 2 to 5 books a week, give or take, depending on how busy I am.

So yes, I admit it, loud an proud… I’m a BOOKAHOLIC!

  1. Have a nice day !

  2. Same to you!

  3. Thanks for sharing your links with me. 😀
I luv ur passion about cars. 😛

  4. Anytime! And I love cars, especially hot rods – drag racing is in my blood and I grew up around the track. My son, even at the age of 3, seems to want to follow in the family’s footsteps, LOL!

  5. I know exactly how you feel!! It seems not only do we read about the same amount, we read the same books!! However, I have stopped buying paper books about 10 years ago. I read my books in my PDA.

This way I can carry hundreds of them with me and I maintain my library on my PC. Once you try it, you will never go back to paper ever again.

I look forward to reading more of your site.

  6. Thanks for the review–interesting concept about gibbons and laura perhaps I could explore that further, I am planning a sequel but I am kinda stuck. –maybe its Like Stephanie and Joe vs Stephanie and Ranger. Steph didn’t sleep with Ranger right away–so who knows what can happen

  7. It’s what popped up at me, Karen. I mean, Gerry is talking to Gibbons about ‘sticking around, why is he that focused on helping Laura’. Yet Gibbons assures Gerry he won’t poach, but it felt like it wasn’t at face value – like he said it only to appease Gerry, not really meaning it. *shrug* It’s what I felt!
